Hiatus

After realizing that talking and discussing is worth zero I’ve decided to stop. Peoples will understand and accept only what they already think.

I’ll focus on play World of Warcraft like a normal player. Nothing else.

Lum isn’t anymore gay

Related to this news.

Rasputin came to the forum to say:

fuck’s sake, he’s not working on Imperator. If he wants you to know what he’s doing (it’s not a top secret project, it’s just different) he’ll let you know.

So I was reading too much in his attitude. This is Lum:

Right now I’m working on support tools for the DAOC Japanese beta.

I’m also working on Imperator server coding.

I had fish for lunch today. Mmm, fish.

Not only they underutilize the MMOG genre, but also Lum. Make him work!

Eve Online subscribers

Interesting news thanks to Sir Bruce. The precise number of Eve-Online subscribers:

6-01-2004 – 45,642 subscribers

A really good work considering the “screensever” nickname. It will be interesting to see how the community will react with the release of the new expansion, expected for September/October.

The numbers seem to come directly from the CEO of the game.

Lum coming out

From time to time, a good news. In the last few months I’ve noticed a (re)growing interest of Lum toward game design. There were also rumors about him being involved with the planning of Imperator.

Now from his blog:

I don’t technically work on DAOC any more

I guess he has been officially “promoted”?

This explains why Sanya doesn’t quote anymore him as “codewarrior” and why Lum seems a lot more proud of his position, publicizing, supporting and defending Mythic. He also appeared on Mud-dev, discussing design, and also posted other interesting comments about MMOGs economies. Plus the various conferences he is attending.

And guess what? Mythic is hiring.

Outing!

More “I love WoW” comments

Stripped:

Fun factor. I agree with riggs. (i thinkit was riggs) who said endgame != fun, in WoW, you are having fun all the time. Even more so that CoH. Take CoH, give all the zones a VERY distinct feel, and make the quests WAY WAY WAY more interesting, and you have a base of how WoW plays.

Leveling in WoW is the most fun I’ve had in any MMO period. To give you an idea I’ve played: UO, AC, AO, AC2,DAOC, SWG, COH and I’m pretty sure 1 or 2 others I’ve forgotten. What makes leveling in WoW fun is that you ALWAYS have something to do. My quest log is constantly full, in fact, I have to abandon alot of quests simply to make room for new ones that look interestings.

In WoW by contrast, I’ve had fun at every single level of the game. That’s right no “I can’t wait to hit max level so I can start having fun syndrome”. Sure, there’s a bit of the old “man I can’t wait til I can get that piece of equipment” or “I want my mount now!” but in general that’s seperate from “these low levels are boring”.

JTL ship upgrades

A few words from a Star Wars Galaxies designer involved with JTL, about the ship types and the possible upgrades we’ll be able to apply:

the ship type and chassis is the starting point, and the components and their individual capabilities take it the rest of the way. Testing will help us fine tune the percentages to which this is so.

No more Mythic here

After this I’ve decided a personal boycott of everything Mythic-related. They don’t deserve anymore any kind of attention. I don’t care anymore what will happen to them.

The boycott must be intended just as a personal self-limit to spare my time.

“Hero classes” after release

Good news turn into bad news for World of Warcraft. The patch isn’t anymore coming this week. Plus Blizzard announced that the Hero classes will be implemented after release. “Sometime” after release.

First feature being cut off. First confirmation that the rumor of Vivendi pressing on Blizzard to release the game is true.

At the beginning I thought they were removing the Hero classes for good. And it was a positive news since this feature will break the game at best. Instead it’s just a delay.
