{"id":2018,"date":"2010-12-07T20:27:21","date_gmt":"2010-12-08T03:27:21","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-12-07T20:39:02","modified_gmt":"2010-12-08T03:39:02","slug":"","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesspit.net\/drupal\/node\/2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Founding blocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On a tangent, this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mulhollandbooks.com\/2010\/12\/03\/dog-to-dog-a-conversation-with-scott-bakker-and-james-sallis\/\">Scott Bakker discussion<\/a> is awesome.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There\u2019s literally no escaping the conviction that we, and we alone, have somehow found our way past all the tomfoolery that so obviously afflicts everyone else on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>The self that continually murders fact and memory in the name of convenience and hypocrisy.<\/p>\n<p>the flattering\u2014and false\u2014self-portrait our brains manufacture for us<\/p>\n<p>the vast bulk of the stories we tell are bent on strategic distortion<\/p>\n<p>They tell us whom to lionize and, of course, whom to condemn.<\/p>\n<p>Few things are quite so slippery as the \u201cmoral of the story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFreedom\u201d is just another name for bad memory.<\/p>\n<p>When confronted by competing claims, one flattering, the other ugly, all things being equal, the ugly claim is likely more true.<\/p>\n<p>It makes it easier to sell toothpaste, to hold the poor responsible for their poverty, and to congratulate the powerful for their conviction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a tangent, this Scott Bakker discussion is awesome.
